Thanksgiving 08

This was my first Thanksgiving where I provided the meal to the family. Jeremy's parents came in to town the Sunday prior to Thanksgiving. It was fun to spend some time with them and Maggie really enjoyed them being here. We celebrated Maggie and Jeremy's mom's birthdays, as they have the same one, and Christmas while they were here. We got a big Christmas surprise when they showed up one morning with Jeremy's sister Jessica. Overall we had a really good time and good food. So it turned out well. I've included some pictures of our good times.

Count down mode

We are officially in count down mode here at the Keen household. The nursery is nearly done. The changing table is finished. We set up the pack n play in case the crib doesn't get done before the baby comes. We are down to weekly visits to the midwife. Everything is in full swing. I'm excited to mee this new one and find out if its a boy or girl.

Also, I strained a ligament in my pelvis, so I've been in a lot of discomfort, which they say will probably be relieved once the baby is born. . .so five weeks of pain in my crotch. . .not so much fun. They restricted me to office work, which limits what I can do at work, and makes me feel bad because we are still short-staffed. If anyone needs a part-time job working with kids in the Naperville/Aurora area, let me know. I'd like to get them staffed before baby 2 comes. Thats pretty much it.

Maggie keeps talking like crazy, and learning more words every day. She is so smart its kind of scary.

Just a thought

Don't forget you can guess boy or girl as well. Thats probably the most interesting part of guessing. Oh, and Jeremy is almost finished with the crib, so hopefully we will be posting pics of the baby's room soon.

Hazard a guess

So, its getting to be that time. I was at the doctor today for a checkup, and the midwife threw out a guess at weight and date. So, inquiring minds want to know what you think. I would like as many people to guess a date and weight as possible. I'm thinking a prize for the closest guess. I haven't yet figured out what the prize will be, but it will be pretty awesome, and well worth the 30 seconds of guessing. I will share with you the midwife's guess to give the unexperienced guessers a little perspective.

Technically my due date is December 24th, 2008. Christmas Eve.

The midwife guesses that I will go around the 14th or 15th. She also guessed the baby would be a "scooch" over 7lbs.

Use that information if you will, and MAKE A GUESS! Just know that if it doesn't show up right away, its because I do need to moderate the comments on the blog. So just submit once, and I will try my best to be on top of moderation so that you all can see the guesses going up.
PEACE OUT!

Halloween Halloween Halloween

Maggie loved loved LOVED Halloween this year! I'm glad too because it is one of my favorite holidays of all times. It reminds me of my mom, and gets me all sentimental. Anyway, Maggie was Foofa from the children's TV show Yo Gabba Gabba. No one got it, everyone thought she was a flower, but thats ok. I made the costume and it was inexpensive, so as far as I am concerned its a win win.

Maggie was so excited about handing out candy that she would almost run to the kids before they got to the house. She would say "different kids?" or try to give them a ton of candy. I had to limit them because we had so many tirck or treaters that we ran out of all the candy. We also walked her around a bit when daddy got home since we were out of candy anyway. She was so good about saying trick or treat, that she even walked up to other trick or treaters on the sidewalk, held out her bag and said trick or treat. Some kids even gave her a piece of candy because she was so cute.

Here are a couple of pics.

Count down

Ok, so we are about 8 weeks out from the big Due Date! For those of you who might be curious, we did end up in at the hosptial last week, and after 2 hours on the monitor at he hospital, nothing was happening. I was having contractions prior to the visit, but they thought I was dehydrated. So they sent me home and everything is fine. I've been working alot lately which is tiring, but better to do it now right?

The baby's room is beginning to come together. Just about all of the studio and office have been removed. We bought a bunch of baskets to put on the shelves in the office since we don't have a dresser/closet. Though we still need a few more, but we bought all that Homegoods had in Naperville. So if anyone lives close to a Homegoods store, in the kids section there are rectangular white baskets, very plain, with a handle on each of the shorter ends. The biggest size is 9.99, the next smaller is like 7.99, then I think 6.99. So if you happen to see them, hook a girl up and I will pay you back. We have all the crib bedding waiting to be washed. Jeremy is currently working on the crib/changing table. Now its a matter of getting all the furniture in there and organizing, which I am lucky enough to have friends that are willing to help me do all that stuff. I did find a really cute brown chenille rug for the room for half price at Hobby Lobby. I hesitated when it came to buying blue baskets, because I'm starting to get a vibe that the baby might be a girl. . .and I don't want to overdo it with the blue in the babe's room. Maggie keeps telling me there is "girl in there" and she points to my belly. So we'll see. Not too much longer.

Jeremy's work has been busy. He hasn't been playing a ton of shows, but he has been playing here and there. He is currently working on a top secret project, so be on the lookout for somethign special.

As for Maggie, she is just a chatterbox. She has jumped from single words to rediculously long sentences that she says so fast you can only hear bits and pieces. If you ask her what a witch says, she says, "I'll get you pretty." Then she adds a little evil chuckle. Its quite amusing.

Thats life at the Keen household, and I'm off to do laundry.

Punkins and Pumpkins

So I wanted to first update everyone to let them know that my tooth needs no new crown. Merely minor filing should smooth it out and leave me with a free fix! YEAH!

Also, we went to the pumpkin patch with some awesome friends on Sunday afternoon. I am throwing some pics of us and the punkin looking for pumpkins. We had a good time and Maggie just loves punkies, as she calls them. She is pretty cute. Check them out!

Ice Ice Baby

So, as alot of pregnant women do, I have been obssessed with chewing ice. Its delicious and crunchy and just about the best thing to munch on. If its in a glass with any sort of refreshment, I find myself avoiding the actual drink and instead trying to suck up the ice and crunch away. The problem with this is that I have terrible teeth. I think I have a filling in just about every tooth in my mouth except a couple in the front. I even have a crown (onlay) on one of my molars where they took out a huge filling and decided to do something a little more long lasting. However, since I have had onlay, its broken twice I think and been replaced as many times. And what to my wondering tongue did appear yesterday? Well, let me tell you! A little jagged edge on the tooth that has the onlay. Not so good. It appears to be right along the edge of the onlay, so thusly, I have either chipped or cracked my tooth, or I have chipped or cracked another onlay. So far it doesn't hurt, though I have begun to notice a little sensitivity. I'm not looking forward to going back to the dentist yet again. Last time I had to have it replaced was the day I went back to work after Maggie was born, it broke into pieces and fell out of my mouth leaving only half a tooth. So I had to go immediately to the dentist to have it fixed. This seems more minor and may even be repairable without replacing the actual onlay. Say a prayer for me, because I really don't want to pay to have this fixed again. Maybe its time for a full crown instead of an onlay. So thank you ICE ICE BABY, and even though I feel this chip or crack, I still want to eat more ice so badly. And mostly I chew on my right side, which is where the only is. I don't know if I can avoid chewing the ice. . .so I'm not sure what to tell my good ol' chomper Doc. HELP!

Keep on keeping on

So, nothing much is new here with the Keens. We are in the midst of preparations for the new baby. Thats about it. We are replacing the carpet in our living room Monday, an answer to prayers. Then we will be painting/staining the baby's crib and changing table. After that we will pack up the rest of the studio/office and wait for the delivery of the bedding and nursery decorations from Target. Time is flying by. I can hardly believe that in 14 weeks or so there will be another set of little feet in our house. Not so sure I'm ready for it. Work is busier than ever as we continue to hire staff, lose staff, and hire more staff. Its like a neverending cycle.

Maggie has recently taken to singing to herself pretty much all the time.
Her current favorites are, "Rain, rain, go away," "Wheels on the bus," "Row, row, row your boat," and a song from a show called Yo Gabba Gabba called "Happy." Its cute to see her singing away. She loves it. She has also recently taken a serious interest in the dog. She bothers her all the time. Constantly falling all over her, kissing her, chasing her, trying to get the dog to give chase, and just generally bothering her. Elphie tolerates it well, but I'm beginning to get fed up with the girl hassling the dog. One of these days Elphie might not be so tolerant, and then what?

Jeremy's work has been busy also! He has been working long hours, and yesterday his store set a record breaking day for sales. I guess the good thing about a bad economy is that people still need to take care of their homes, and the ReStore offers an inexpensive alternative for people to be able to keep them up, not to mention the profit all goes to a wonderful cause.

Thats the jist of it for right now.

Safe n Sound

Hey everyone. We had our level 2 ultrasound this morning. The doc says everything is fine and healthy with baby and mama. He said it looks like a normal and boring pregnancy, and he told me to stay boring. YEAH! I've never been so glad to be boring. Here are some new pics of Baby K 2. PS. We still didn't find out if it was a boy or girl. What do you think its from the profile? Let us know your guess!

Not alot of new

There is not a lot of new information going on here at the Keens. Maggie is a bigger big kid every day. I am including some new pics of her playing around at the house with Mama and Dada.

Sam will be going to see a specialist on September 10th to have a precautionary extra ultrasound done, and will fill everyone in on the results once it has taken place. So far, nothing to worry about, and we're confident there is nothing to worry about at all.

Maggie is starting to use sentences now. One of them that she used to day, "Mama is tired." She will also say things like, "Uh oh, my mouse." She might as well be 1 anda 1/2 going on 22.

Grooming her early on

I just have to share a funny little story. I guess I'm grooming my daughter early to be an Olympics fantatic. Today I was watching USA women's beach volleyball. She is obsessed with balls, so she didn't seem to mind. Every time I yelled, "COME ON!" I would hear my little parrot repeat, "COME ON!" Then every time I said, "AWESOME!" She would yell the same, whether she was tooling about in the other room, or right in front of the game. It was amusing, and I hope to enjoy Olympic celebrations with her for years to come.

Pics of Baby K 2

We had the ultrasound today. We did not find out the sex of the baby, so just deal with it. You will all find out when we do. The day little Baby K 2 decides to make an appearance. Which as we all know the estimated date is Christmas Eve. The lady actually printed us out quite a few pics. Check them out! Kind of neat. The baby is active and looks healthy. It was opening and closing its mouth, and trying to stick its hand in there. Everything looked good, so we we are happy and relieved.

Names. . .

We're still struggling for a boy's name. Granted we have a while until we need to name our child, but its still discouraging. We found one we both like. . .which is a tremendous feat. But I'm debating whether to share it yet or not. Its not set in stone like our girl's name. Sometimes its hard to hear whether people love or hate it. Ultimately its our kid, so we'll name them what we want. At first I thought we were having a girl again, but now I'm not so sure. Who knows?

Cute story about Maggie while I'm here. Maggie loves to read, and one of her favorite books is, "5 Little Monkies." I caught her "reading" to herself the other day in her room, turning the pages of that book, each time saying, "No mumpies Bed" and shaking her finger at them. It was cute, and I could watch her do it for hours and hours. I'll try to get it on video sometime and add it on here. Its pretty stinking adorable!

Sunday, July 13, 2008

Tell me how. . .

Tell me how a 1 1/2 year old learns words you never taught her! We were at a baby shower yesterday, and she was running around pointing out all the usual things. Balloon! Ball! Baby! Berries! Cheese! Then she runs up to the table and yells out CUPCAKE! Sure enough a plate of cupcakes stared back at me. Maggie had never had a cupcake prior to that day, at least to my knowledge. She had no doubts about what a cupcake was, and the fact that she wanted one. Not only did she want one, but she wanted one badly. Badly enough to throw herself on the floor.

Besides that, when she was done being there, and when she decided it was time to leave, she blatantly told me, "WANNA GO!"

This girl is going to be hard to shut up very soon. Not that I would want to yet anyway. She is pretty hilarious. The shower we went to was in Joliet, and when I asked her if she was ready to go to J-Town, she said JTOWN! Funny girl. I love her.

She has also recently decided that if Mommy and Daddy are both home, Mommy is not good enough for much at all. If she needs help, and I offer, she tells me NO Daddy. If we are swinging or playing at the park, she says NO Daddy! I figure she'll outgrow that a bit, and someday I'll be good for somethings.

Friday, July 11, 2008

Oh yeah, that

Baby K 2 started squirming around this week. Well, perhaps sooner, but I started feeling it this week. Which is cool. Its just the tiny little pops right now, but still reassuring. I have my ultrasound on July 30th.

Maggie is getting as big as ever. She says something new everyday. Her most recent feat, is that she tries to say "Bye, see you later." But it sounds like some kind of foreign language as she rolls all of the words together into bubyseeeeelabaaler. Its pretty funny when you can get her to say it.

Nothing else is really new with us.

Clarification

Ok everyone. I am here to clear up some issues people seem to have with the blog. When you are leaving a comment, it will not show up right away. I have set the blog so that each comment must be approved by me before it will be posted on the blog. This way I can prevent just any old crap from going up on here. So, if you post a comment, and you think it didn't work, it did, I just haven't approved it yet. So don't worry! And no need to try and post again!

Baby 2 Update

Nothing very exciting. We had our montly appointment yesterday. There was a good strong heartbeat, and apparently, though I can't feel it quite yet, the doc said that she could hear the baby moving around like crazy, which is good. In 4-5 weeks we will be having the first ultrasound, which will put Baby K 2 at 20 weeks gestation. We have the option of finding out the sex, but didn't with Maggie. Jeremy feels strongly we should follow the same protocol with this one. I am torn. Thoughts are welcome. Also, suggestions for boy names are welcome, as we can only agree on a girl's name, and will be in big trouble if it does end up being a boy.

Uh oh

Our house has a naughty mat. Some people may be unfamiliar with the term, but its just what it sounds like. It is a small rug that sits on the floor in front of the laundry closet, where Maggie sits when in time out. We sit her there, set the timer, walk away, and wait for it to beep. When it does, we go hug her, tell her to say sorry and explain the offense. Well apparently, while I was at work today, Maggie thought her baby needed a timeout. So she put her on the naughty mat. She then told her No No. She walked into the kitchen near the stove (which is right by the microwave, where we use the timer.) Then she walked back, picked up her baby, and hugged her. I guess at least if nothing else we are consistent. The funny thing is though, she doesn't get timeouts that often. She is smart enough now though, that if you say, do you want to go on the naughty mat? She will say no, and stop the behavior that she was doing. She hates the naughty mat. Funny stuff.

First Zoo Trip

So, the Keen set of grandparents were in town for a visit, and we all took a trip to the zoo. This was Maggie's first trip and we think she had a good time. She was particularly fond of the Gorillas, both in real and statue form, as you will see from the pictures. Highlights of the day, showing up to the monkey house minutes after a baby monkey was born. Try and see the tiny baby clutching onto its mother. Its hard to see, but if you look closely you can tell. It was still all wet and she was cleaning it up. When the zoo keeper said the monkey had not passed the placenta yet, we headed out. That was something we didn't want to see. Maggie did take a tumble while running around, scraping both her knees. Luckily, the undying camp counselor in me continues to carry instant ice packs and bandaids. So I wiped her up and slapped bandaids on her "bo bo" as she calls it. She was so cute. Every animal was greeted with a hi and every animal was told bye bye as we left. It was a good day.

Maggie Rose or Rosemary's Baby?

So, I encountered the fit to rival all fits. Amusing though it may be for those who watched, for the moody pregnant mom, it was less than fun.

Scene: Sam spends the whole day taking her daughter around to do fun stuff. We go to the little zoo near our house. Play at the park. Go for a ride on the bike. All of these things great, right? Sam decides to take daughter Maggie to the small park near our house that has a water feature that sprays all kinds of water and changes direction and sprays. Fun for kids of all ages.

Maggie loved it. When I say loved it, I mean if she were about 20 years old she probably would have wanted to marry it. It didn't matter that I let her play for 30 minutes, her skin was clammy to the touch, and her lips had a blueish tinge. She would have stayed forever. So when I try to take her home, literally all hell breaks loose. She lets out a scream that cannot compare to anything that I have ever heard come out of her mouth. I thought she was possessed. So then, the petite, pregnant mom must wrangle her slippery daughter, and proceed to carry her the block and a half home. Not a small task with such a determined girl. She proceeded to scream as though I was beating her. I intentionally sat with her outside for about 20-25 more minutes so that the neighbors could see that I was clearly not beating her, as they watched her pace back and forth on the sidewalk screaming. Every time she would calm down, she would pass by me again, look me in the eye with the most defiant face ever, and proceed with the screaming. After the 20 minutes I transferred her into the house, and decided to try the naughty mat. She then spent the next ten minutes kicking the laundry closet and crying. After which I picked her up, and she sobbed pitifully on my shoulder, as though her world collapsed. Of course, Jeremy walks in the door 5 minutes later, and she is once again the angel that only Daddy knows.

As tough as that whole situation was, I spent half the fit trying not to let her see me laughing. She is so darn cute, even when she is mad.

Hot time, summer in the suburbs

Yesterday it was quite warm. Hot actually. Humid. Felt a bit like Houston, TX. So we decided to let Maggie play in the hose for a bit. She loved it. See pics below. It was quite fun. She kept trying to spray us, but would accidentally spray herself in the face. The fit she threw when we turned off the hose was enormous. So it goes.

The Sweetest Sound

So, not too much is new. We went to the doctor today. We were relieved to hear a tiny, but strong heartbeat pumping away. It was in the 150's, which is a good range. While we were waiting in the exam room, Maggie was getting impatient and singing NKOTB. This girl is a trip. She has begun saying quite a few more 2 syllable words, such as Purple, Yellow, and her friends name Ella. Maggie is currently going through a phase where she must say goodbye to inanimate objects that she passes. Jeremy is playing several shows in the near future, so if you have the time and are close by, check out his website for details. www.jeremykeen.com
Peace. I'm out.

Not alot to update

There isn't really much to cover right now, but I feel like I should try and write something every once in awhile. Maggie is fine. Nothing really new on her front. She has taken recently, to noticing when she hears the train whistle when we are outside. She says choo choo, and looks all around, though you can't see it from our house. I think she learned this at the YMCA, because you can see the train from the window there.

Lately, everyday when she gets up from her nap, she slaps her leg and calls for Elphie in her own Maggie way. EPHA! She's not happy until the dog comes running and licks her face. Not looking forward to when Mags is about 5 and Elphie is about dead. I think it will crush her, and I'm not planning on another dog, so it should be interesting.

Jeremy doesn't have anything really new going on right now either. Work is busy for him, but other than that, same old, same old.

Maggie the big sister

So Maggie is already proving to be an excellent big sister. If you ask her where the baby is, she lifts up mom's shirt to show the tummy. Then she says hi baby, and gives the tummy a kiss. Then she tells the baby night night or bye bye depending on what is appropriate at the time. She is cute. I hope the next one is as cool as she is. She is hard to beat.

Its been awhile. . .

Some new things on the Maggie front.

Newer Maggie words: Taco, No, Up, Becky, and Shirt

Maggie can also now do an array of animal noises including, but not limited to:

Dog, Cat, Rooster, Chicken, Sheep, Cow, Monkey, Lion, Bear, Pig, Elephant, and I probably missed some.

Also, she is getting another molar in, and has been a beast for the past couple of days. We're getting through it though.

Also, she has recently become jealous whenever I hug or kiss Jeremy she throws a fit, so we do it alot just to make her mad. (Plus she just has to get used to it. I was here first, and I'll be here after she's out of the house!)

One other funny Maggie story. I was watching World Trade Center, that movie with Nicholas Cage, only because someone bought it for us. And while the scene itself was not funny, Maggie's reaction was. The building collapsed on a couple of police officers, and as they are screaming and writhing in agony, Maggie is screaming and mimicking them and laughing her head off. She thought it was very funny they were yelling, and wanted to join in the party.

Jeremy's new store opened, and it was a big success. Lets not go into numbers, but their grand opening brought in three times as much as their biggest day! Go hot stuff!

He has been playing shows here and there, and will be featured in the Red Eye sometime soon I believe, which is pretty cool.

Sam has nothing new going on worth posting. If that changes you will all be the first to know. She is working the same old job. Lugging around the same old kid. And married to the same old dude. Things are good on the Keen front.

Tragedy strikes the Keen family

So, Sunday we went for a walk. To our great joy, our new family member, Little Red arrived. We took her out of the mail room. She was packed prettily in a box, we couldn't be more thrilled. I handed her to Maggie, and she hugged her and squeezed her. I thought about taking her back after that, but seeing how tightly Maggie was holding her, I thought that it was best she stay put. So we walked around the neighborhood pushing Maggie in the stroller. We arrived at our friends house and engaged in conversation when Jeremy says, "Hey Sam. Did you take that toy away from Maggie, or did she lose it?" I wish I could say it was the former, but it was unfortunately the latter. So I took off running to locate Little Red. She was no where to be found, and I was devestated. A sad day for the Keen family. No sooner did our little bundle arrive, then she was tragically taken from us. The worst thing about it was that she was lovingly handmade by a friend at church, and I couldn't bear to tell her what had happened for fear she would think us unworthy of a new Itty Bitty. The next day, I get an email from Red's creator, asking me to leave feedback on her sale site, and a P.S. that says I know who has your Itty Bitty Oddity. Its a good think that everyone knows everyone in our subdivision, Hometown. I was sure some darn little kid stumbled upon Red, and seeing how cute she is, kidnapped her forever. But she is found, and will soon return home where she belongs. Luckily, as we were walking, a lady was coming out of her house and found Little Red on the ground. She recognized the creation as something her friend makes, and upon seeing her tag confirmed this. It made my day to know that she will be coming home. Funny how the little things can make or break you.

By the way, if you think this little palm-sized doll is adorable. Check out Sara's site.

Maggie's first swear word

So, I was in the bustle of spring cleaning. I was re-organizing, and cleaning the daughter's bedroom. Everything was looking fine and going well. Then I decide its time to rifle through bins of clothing, and thus begin to pull a rubbermaid bin down from the shelf. In doing so, deluxe scrabble and a large set of dominoes tumbles onto my face. In the heat of the moment, I let a word slip, that I must be saying a little to often lately. I slip and say "shit." Then what do my wondering ears hear? I hear my little daughter rattle off that same word. So I bend down to her level and tell her that mommy said a bad word, and we won't say that word anymore. Thinking its over and done with I continue in my work. Still I hear Maggie wandering around repeating said word over and over and over again. Because I ignored her, the behavior stopped. Until today, when I forgot something on the way to work and had to turn around. I yelled crap. And Maggie said, "SHIT." Its a very difficult feat to reprimand your little one while laughing. Something I have yet to master. What a little mockingbird.

Here is a picture of Maggie the copycat trying to put my shoes on. Its what she does when she's not trying to use my tooth brush, wash her face like me, wear my clothes, or put on my jewelry. She's always trying to do whatever I do. Just goes to show that I better watch myself.

My daughter the busy body

See Maggie. See Maggie run. See Maggie run in and out of the bathroom getting one piece of dog food at a time and running it to wherever the dog happens to be for the moment. See Maggie force feed the dog food that she may otherwise not have eaten.

Happy Easter Everybody!

I hope that all of you enjoyed your Easter celebrations. We all did, especially Maggie. She loved the Easter bunny, enjoyed the first of many Peeps to come, and looked awfully pretty for church Sunday morning. Let us not forget the true meaning of Easter though.

Matthew 28:5+6
The angel said to the women, "Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. . ."

Have a blessed day!
